First addendum to the memorandum of understanding - Gates Foundation Versão em português
FIRST ADDENDUM TO THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING ON THE COLLABORATION AMONG THE STATE FUNDING AGENCIES OF BAHIA, GOIÁS, MARANHÃO, MATO GROSSO DO SUL, MINAS GERAIS, RIO DE JANEIRO, RIO GRANDE DO NORTE, RIO GRANDE DO SUL, SÃO PAULO, AMAZONAS, ESPÍRITO SANTO, MATO GROSSO, PARANÁ, TOCANTINS, SANTA CATARINA, PERNAMBUCO AND THE BILL & MELINDA GATES FOUNDATION TO PROMOTE INNOVATION FOR GLOBAL HEALTH IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES.
That is done in the scope of National Council of State Funding Agencies, hereinafter referred to as CONFAP, located at Setor Hoteleiro Sul, Quadra 6, Ed. Brasil 21, Conj A, Bloco E, Sala 1115, Asa Sul, Brasília, Distrito Federal, here represented by its President, Sérgio Luiz Gargioni, between the State Funding Agencies of Bahia, Goías, Maranhão, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo, Amazonas, Espírito Santos, Mato Grosso, Paraná, Tocantins, Santa Catarina, and Pernambuco here represented by their respective Presidents, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, hereinafter referred to as Gates Foundation, located at 500 Fifth Avenue North Seattle, WA 98109, United States, here represented by its Global Health Program President, Trevor Mundel. From this moment, the signatory State Funding Agencies and Gates Foundation will be hereinafter referred jointly as Parties.
WHEREAS the Mission of the State Research Foundations signed below is to promote Science, Technology and Innovation to promote the economic development of its States;
WHEREAS the Gates Foundation is a grantmaking organization that is committed to accelerating the development of lifesaving advances in global health, development and nutrition to reduce the burden of disease in developing countries in furtherance of its mission to ensure that all lives have equal value;
WHEREAS the State Research Foundations and the Gates Foundation wish to collaborate to alleviate some of the world’s most critical global health and development issues;
WHEREAS innovative approaches to developing new preventions, therapies and interventions are needed to solve health inequities;
WHEREAS the Grand Challenges Model and Grand Challenges partnerships have proven effective in advancing the research in global health embracing the following key principles:

Funders, investigators, and other stakeholders actively collaborate to accelerate progress and integrate advances to ensure these advances serve those most in need;

Projects and investigators in Grand Challenges programs are selected based on public, transparent calls for proposals seeking the best ideas;

Projects are selected not only for innovation & scientific excellence, but based on their likelihood to achieve the desired impact; and
-
Projects and investigators make global access commitments to ensure the fruits of their research are available to those most in need.
The Parties agree that:
Article 1
This document is a first addendum to the original Memorandum of Understanding signed between the State Funding Agencies of Bahia, Goías, Maranhão, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo, Amazonas, Espírito Santos, Mato Grosso, Paraná, Tocantins, Santa Catarina, and Pernambuco and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation on December 1st, 2011 (“Original MoU”) whose purpose is to promote mutual cooperation among the Parties ratified in the mentioned document.
Article 2
The first purpose of this addendum is the inclusion of the State Funding Agencies of Alagoas, Pará, Ceará, Sergipe, Distrito Federal to the Memorandum of Understanding signed on December 1st, 2011.
Article 3
The second purpose of this addendum is that according to the clause “Entry into force, duration and termination” in the original document, the end date Memorandum of Understanding will be extended until November 29th, 2021.
The Parties ratify the remaining clauses of the Original MOU that do not conflict with the terms hereof, and incorporate the clauses into this addendum.
