SPRINT - 3rd Edition 2016: Guidelines Carleton University

Specific requests for proposals submissions from researchers of CARLETON UNIVERSITY

FAPESP and Carleton University signed a Cooperation Agreement for Research on March 11, 2016, aiming to implement scientific and technological cooperation between researchers from Carleton University, and from the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, through the funding of joint research projects.

Under the referred Agreement, as a first action to promote such collaboration, FAPESP and Carleton University make public this Call for Proposals for the exchange of researchers under the terms and conditions of the SPRINT 3rd Edition 2016 (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call32016) and hereinafter set forth.

1. Eligibility from CARLETON side:

1.1 Eligibility to submit proposals within the scope of this Call:

All full-time faculty of any professorial rank (Assistant, Associate, Full). Applications from Adjunct Research Professor will be considered in exceptional cases.

1.2 Eligibility for the exchange activities within the scope of this Call:

a. As above.

b. Proposals must aim to respect the principle of reciprocity with regard to academic qualifications of those who will take part in the exchange activities.

c. Eligibility of research partners in the State of São Paulo should observe the items 3.1 and 7.1 of FAPESP call (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call32016).

2. Fields of knowledge

This Call for Proposals invites research proposals in all fields of knowledge.

3. Duration of the project for the exchange of researchers

The maximum duration of each project is 24 months.

5. Funding principles

5.1 FAPESP will provide funding of up to the equivalent of $10,000 CDN per successful proposal and Carleton University will provide funding of up to $10,000 CDN per successful proposal. These funds will cover research-related mobility expenses under the provisions of Clause 5 of the Scientific Cooperation Agreement established by the Parties.

5.2 The grants are intended to fund research to be conducted during 2017 and 2018.

5.3 No more than four proposals will be selected for funding.

6. Proposal characteristics for Carleton University researchers:

The proposal shall be composed of:

6.1 A Research Project having a maximum of five (5) pages of scientific content, written jointly by the Principal Investigator of the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo and the Principal Investigator at Carleton University. The Research proposal must be written in English. One copy of the Research Project shall be sent to FAPESP and another (identical) copy to Carleton University. The Research Proposal must include the items included in the item 6.1 at www.fapesp.br/sprint/call32016.

6.2 The following additional documents are required by Carleton University:

a. CV for each participant in the partnership (maximum of 4 pages each);

b. a budget outlining planned expenditures; and a

c. letter of Agreement of the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo to which the PI from São Paulo is affiliated. The same document is required by FAPESP in item 6.2.3 at www.fapesp.br/sprint/call32016. The Letter of Agreement may be delivered after the notification of results of this call for proposals and before the grant agreement signature.

7. Submission of proposals to Carleton

Submissions can only be accepted via email to: Gabriela.Moreno@carleton.ca

7.1 In order for an application to be considered valid, application documents must be submitted to both Carleton University and FAPESP by their respective researchers. FAPESP applicants must adhere to the FAPESP guidelines and submit all required documents to FAPESP. If an application is submitted to only one of the institutions and not both, it will be excluded from consideration.

8. Result of the analysis

Final results will be announced on the FAPESP website (www.fapesp.br). Carleton International will communicate the results to Carleton researchers.

9. Contract for selected projects by Carleton University

Selected proposals will subject to the conditions as set forth in the letter of award.

10. Grant cancellation

Carleton University may cancel funding of a Carleton researcher, if, during the grant timeframe, a fact is of sufficient gravity to justify cancellation, at the discretion of the Vice-President (Research and International), without prejudice of any other appropriate actions.
