Four post doctoral fellowship in Music

• Resumo Summary

  Seleção de candidatos para quatro bolsas de pós-doutoramento na área de Etnomusicologia/Antropologia da Música. Bolsas associadas ao Projeto Temático FAPESP 2016/05318-7 “O Musicar Local – Novas Trilhas para a Etnomusicologia”.

  Duas bolsas, orientadas por Professora Suzel Ana Reily, serão sediadas no Instituto de Artes da UNICAMP; duas bolsas, orientadas por Professora Rose Satiko Hikiji, serão sediadas no Departamento de Antropologia da USP.

  Resumo do Projeto Temático:

  O Projeto Temático visa investigar como o musicar constrói a localidade e como é construído por ela. Ao dar foco à localidade da atividade musical, pretende-se chamar atenção para o papel da música na articulação deste contexto, independentemente da origem do estilo em questão. Localidades são contextos dinâmicos; são pontos de encontros contínuos entre pessoas, ideias, práticas, tecnologias, objetos que vão convergindo no local ao longo do tempo. A especificidade da localidade deriva de suas relações com outras localidades, mais do que com o seu isolamento. Busca-se, aqui, documentar como o engajamento musical se articula com as interações sociais que ocorrem durante o musicar, sejam os participantes amadores ou profissionais. O projeto, portanto, volta-se para a investigação da relação entre música e localidade a partir das práticas das pessoas envolvidas no musicar. 

  Eixos do Projeto Temático:

  • O musicar e a produção da localidade;
  • Localidades, encontros e conexões no musicar local;
  • Aprendizagem, transmissão e preparação;
  • Tecnologias do musicar local. 

  Projeto de pesquisa:

  Os temas específicos abordados por cada bolsista serão definidos pelos candidatos, de acordo com as suas bagagens acadêmicas anteriores e interesses pessoais, mas espera-se que o bolsista contribua para o avanço coletivo dos debates norteando o projeto como um todo.

  Em conformidade com os objetivos gerais do Projeto Temático, as investigações dos bolsista serão norteados pelas questões chaves:

  • Qual é a natureza do musicar no contexto local? O que isto nos diz sobre a produção da localidade e o modo como localidades produzidas são vividas pelas pessoas envolvidas no musicar local?

  • O que contribui para o estabelecimento de engajamento musical e de sentimentos de compromisso com a produção da música em nível local?

  • Como os grupos musicais locais operam enquanto “mundos artísticos” e/ou “comunidades de prática”? Como suas estruturas organizacionais afetam as formas do musicar na localidade, tanto no domínio amador quanto profissional?

  • De que maneira pessoas, coisas, tecnologias, instituições interagem nas práticas do musicar? Qual a relação destes “agentes” com a localidade, seja ela física ou imaginária? 

  Descrição das Atividades de Trabalho

  Cada bolsista desenvolverá o projeto de pesquisa individual ao longo da vigência da bolsa, seguindo os seguintes critérios: 

  • Utilização e desenvolvimento de metodologias condizentes com a Etnomusicologia e Antropologia da Música contemporâneas;

  • Produção de publicações em diversas modalidades (artigos em periódicos de alto índice de impacto, artigos para coletâneas, livros científicos e didáticos, produções audiovisuais, documentários, CDs, sites/blogs de internet etc.);

  • Participação e organização de eventos científicos e de extensão universitária

  • Contribuição com a formação de alunos de graduação (através da orientação de alunos de iniciação científica, palestras, contribuições em disciplinas existentes) e de pós-graduação (através de palestras, contribuições em disciplinas existentes);

  • Participação nas reuniões regulares da equipe do Projeto Temático. 

  Duração do PD: 24 meses. 

  O valor de pós-doutorado FAPESP é de R$6.819,30.

  Selection of candidates for 4 (four) Post-doctoral Fellowships in Ethnomusicology/Anthropology of Music. The Fellowships are linked to the FAPESP Thematic Project 2016/05318-7 “Local Musicking – new pathways for ethnomusicology.”

  Two fellowships, supervised by Professor Suzel A Reily, will be based at the State University of Campinas Arts Institute (IA-Unicamp); Two fellowships, supervised by Professor Rose Satiko Hikiji, will be based at the University of São Paulo Department of Antropology.  

  Summary of the Thematic Project:

  This Thematic Project aims to investigate how music produces locality and how it is produced by locality. By focusing on the locality of the musical activity, we call attention to the role of music in articulating this context, regardless of the origin of the style in question. Localities are dynamic settings; they are points of continuous encounter between people, ideas, practices, technologies, and objects that converge in the locality over time. The specificity of a locality derives more from its relationships to other localities than from its isolation. Here, we aim to document how musical engagement articulates with the social interactions that occur during musicking, whether the participants are amateurs or professionals. The project, therefore, focuses on the investigation of the relations between music and locality in terms of the people involved in musicking.

  Thematic Project  Subthemes:

  • Musicking and the production of locality;
  • Localities, encounters and connections in local musicking;
  • Learning, transmission and preparation;
  • Technologies of local musicking.

  Research projects:

  The specific themes to be developed by each research fellow will be defined by the candidates, according to their previous research backgrounds and personal interests, but it is envisaged that fellows contribute to the collective advancement of the debates surrounding the Thematic Project as a whole.

  In conformity with the general objectives of the Thematic Project , the fellows’ projects will be guided by the following key questions:

  • What is the nature of musicking in the local context? What does this tell us about the production of locality and the ways in which localities are experienced by those involved in local musicking?

  • What contributes to the establishment of musical engagement and of feelings of commitment to music production at the local level?

  • How do local music groups operate as ‘art worlds’ and/or ‘communities of practice’? How do their organizational structures affect the forms of musicking in a locality, both in the amateur and professional domains?

  • In what ways do people, objects, technologies, institutions interact in musical practices? How are these ‘agents’ related to a physical or imagined locality? 

  Description of the job activities:

  Each fellow will undertake an individual research project throughout the duration of the fellowship, following the criteria set out below: 

  • Use and development of methodologies coherent with contemporary Ethnomusicology and the Anthropology of Music;

  • Production of publications in various modalities (articles in journals of high impact, articles in edited collections, academic books, textbooks, audio-visual productions, documentaries, CDs, internet sites/blogs etc.);

  • Participation and organization of scientific events and outreach programmes;

  • Contribution to undergraduate training (through the supervision of introductory research projects, lectures, contributions to courses) and post-graduate training (through lectures, contributions to courses);

  • Participation in the regular meetings of the TP research group.

  Candidate’s requirements

  a. The candidate should have concluded a doctorate less than seven years before the beginning of the PD fellowship.

  b. The fellowship demands full time dedication to the research project (except under conditions outlined in resolution PR Nº 13/2009, 15 July 2009).

  c. The fellowship holder may not hold any formal or informal employment nor receive, during the term of the fellowship, a fellowship from another entity, salary or remuneration deriving from the exercise of activities of whatever nature (except under conditions outlined in the decree PR Nº 13/2009, 15 July 2009). 

  Candidate’s obligations

  a. Full dedication to research (except under conditions outlined in the resolution PR Nº 13/2009, 15 July 2009).

  b. Not to receive a fellowship from another entity, salary or remuneration deriving from the exercise of activities of any nature (except under conditions outlined in the resolution PR Nº 13/2009, 15 July 2009).

  c. To consult FAPESP before accepting any financial support from any other funding source, public or private, for the development of the research project that concerns the fellowship awarded.

  d. Not to make any modifications to the project (initial plan, dates etc.) without the prior consent of the Foundation.

  e. To submit scientific reports and reports on the application of the Research Contingency Funds within the time frames laid out in the Terms of Award (TA), accompanied by the requested documentation.

  f. Not to absent himself from the institution in which he is developing his research project, except to carry out field research or a research placement, for a limited time and with the authorization of FAPESP and with the supervisor’s endorsement.

  g. To refer to the support from FAPESP in theses, articles, books, abstracts of presentations in meetings and any other type of publication or form of outreach activities that result, wholly or in part, from the fellowship. 

  Duration of PD Fellowship: 24 months. 

  The stipend of the FAPESP post-doctoral fellowship is R$ 6.819,30.
