  O projeto conduzido na rede dos laboratórios da Genética de Abelhas do Campus da Universidade de São Paulo em Ribeirão Preto busca compreender estratégias de histórias de vida (life histories) de abelhas sem ferrão por meio de análises de genômica comparativa.

  As abelhas sem ferrão (Meliponini) são as abelhas altamente sociais nativas da região neotropical. São muito mais diversas e variáveis em número de espécies e na sua biologia quando comparadas às abelhas melíferas, e assim permitem responder perguntas sobre características genômicas que definem life histories de insetos sociais, especialmente o trade-off entre reprodução e longevidade.

  O(a) candidato(a) deve ter experiência em linguagens de programação (Python, R, Perl) e no uso do sistema operacional Linux, experiência em gerenciamento e uso de bancos de dados em servidores, e domínio de ferramentas de bioinformática para montagem de genomas e anotação funcional de genes e a análise de dados de transcriptomas. Experiência em técnicas de biologia molecular é desejável.

  A vaga está aberta a brasileiros e estrangeiros. O selecionado receberá Bolsa de Pós-Doutorado da FAPESP no valor de R$ 8.479,20 mensais e Reserva Técnica equivalente a 10% do valor anual da bolsa para atender a despesas imprevistas e diretamente relacionadas à atividade de pesquisa.

  The project is being developed in the network of Bee Genetics laboratories situated at the Ribeirão Preto Campus of the University of São Paulo (USP) Using comparative genomics approaches, our aim is to understand life history strategies in stingless bees (Meliponini), which are the native highly social bees in the Neotropics.

  As they are much more diverse in terms of species number and their biology than the honey bees, this permits us to ask questions about genomic traits underlying the life histories of social insects, especially concerning the trade-off between reproduction and longevity.

  The candidate should have experience in the use of programming languages (Python, R, Perl) and use of the operational system Linux, experience in the management of databases on servers, and knowledge on the use of bioinformatics tools for the de novo assembly of genomes, including the functional annotation of genes, as well as the analysis of transcriptome data.Experience in molecular biology methods is desirable.

  This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality. The selected candidate will receive a Post-Doctoral fellowship from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) in the amount of R$ 8,479.20 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent in items directly related to the research activity.
