The Laboratory of Neural Control of Cardiorespiratory Function at the Department of Pharmacology of University of São Paulo's Biomedical Sciences Institute (ICB-USP), under the supervision of Dr. Ana Carolina Takakura announces a vacancy for a Post-doctoral Fellowship funded by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) in the area of Neurobiology of Breathing. The scholarship is linked to the Thematic Project coordinated by Dr. Thiago S. Moreira.

The fellow will develop a project to evaluate the participation of astrocytes as well as the relationship with neurons and blood vessels located in the ventral aspect of the brainstem in the control respiratory activity in a model of Parkinson's disease. Therefore, the candidate should have experience in the following techniques: brainstem injections of drugs and viral vectors; records of respiratory and cardiovascular parameters in anesthetized and conscious animals; immunohistochemistry; microscopy; electrophysiology in vivo; knowledge of opto and pharmacogenetics techniques.

In addition, the necessary requirements are: independence in the development of the techniques, interest and motivation for the development of the experiments, collaboration with the team, advanced knowledge in English and availability to carry out scientific internship abroad.

The selection will be through curriculum analysis. Interested candidates should send an e-mail to takakura@icb.usp.br (principal investigator of the project), until April, 26th, 2019 with the following information: a) updated curriculum vitae; b) reference letter of 2 researchers linked to the project area.

This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationalities. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP’s Post-Doctoral fellowship in the amount of R$ 7,373.10 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 15% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent in items directly related to the research activity.
