    Objetivos do projeto

Two post-doctoral positions with fellowships funded by FAPESP, the São Paulo Research Foundation, are available within the scope of a Research Project hosted by the University of Campinas’s Gleb Wataghin Physics Institute in São Paulo State, Brazil.

The project, which goes under the title “Optomechanical Cavities Towards Single Photon Strong Coupling,” is supported by FAPESP through its Young Investigator Grants (YIG) scheme and features Prof. Thiago Alegre as Principal Investigator (see his list of articles in the link https://scholar.google.com.br/citations?user=46h_rgoAAAAJ). Prof. Alegre’s team leads research in the context of the “photonic revolution,” which could provide for changes and benefits on our society the way the electronic revolution did, impacting almost every aspect of our lives; from how we store information and communicate, to the way we consume energy.

    Goals of the project

In any future development controlling the light propagation and interaction with matter is a challenge of the most importance. Such control can be achieved either by varying the refractive index in a given medium, or by displacing the physical boundaries between media of different refractive indexes. In this proposal we aim to develop micro- and nano-metric structures that will exploit different geometries and materials to improve the nonlinear interaction between photons and phonons. Our goal is to enhance the optomechanical coupling, understand the limiting effects of each material, and, by taking advantage of the new materials capabilities, create fundamental and applied knowledge on integrated photonics devices.

The opportunities are open to candidates of any nationalities. Each selected candidate will receive a FAPESP’s Post-Doctoral fellowship in the amount of R$ 7,373.10 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 15% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent in items directly related to the research activity.
