  • Resumo Summary

    Esta bolsa de pós-doutorado foca em explorar genomas e fenótipos de aves e cactos da Diagonal Seca. O pesquisador atuará na Universidade Federal de São Paulo em Diadema desenvolvendo projeto de pesquisa vinculado ao Projeto Temático “Dimensions Dry Diagonal”, conduzido pelo Instituto de Biologia da Unicamp em parceria com a Harvard University, no âmbito do convênio firmado entre FAPESP e National Science Foundation (EUA) por meio de seus programas BIOTA e Dimensions of Diversity, respectivamente.

    Adaptação é um processo central na evolução, e grupos de espécies ecologicamente diversos oferecem oportunidades para estudar a evolução adaptativa em níveis distintos de organização biológica. O projeto “Dimensions Dry Diagonal” utilizará diferentes tipos de dados com o objetivo de compreender como a adaptação contribui para a diversificação filogenética, genômica e fenotípica nas áreas abertas e florestas úmidas adjacentes. Aves a cactos neotropicais oferecem excelentes exemplos de grupos de espécies proximamente relacionadas ocupando florestas abertas e secas e florestas úmidas, incluindo casos envolvendo a Caatinga, Cerrado, Amazônia e Mata Atlântica. Estes complexos de espécies oferecem oportunidades para explorar a genômica da adaptação. Avanços recentes em tecnologias de sequenciamento facilitam a tarefa de interrogar centenas – ou mesmo milhares – de loci potencialmente relacionados à variação fenotípica usando tanto genomas como transcriptomas.

    O pesquisador selecionado irá:

    - Coletar e processar amostras de aves e cactos, e ocasionalmente dados de atributos destes organismos;
    - Realizar captura de sequência de genes candidatos e sequenciar genomas e transcriptomas completos;
    - Realizar análises bioinformáticas e de evolução de genomas e atributos;
    - Redigir relatórios.

    A vaga está aberta a brasileiros e estrangeiros. O selecionado receberá Bolsa de Pós-Doutorado da FAPESP no valor de R$ 7.373,10 mensais e Reserva Técnica equivalente a 15% do valor anual da bolsa para atender a despesas imprevistas e diretamente relacionadas à atividade de pesquisa.

    The Amaral Lab at the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Federal University of São Paulo has an open post-doc opportunity.

    This post-doc fellowship focus on exploring genomes and phenotypes of birds and cacti from the so-called Dry Diagonal area in South America. The selected candidate will work at the Federal University of São Paulo in Diadema (São Paulo State, Brazil) where he/she will develop a research project linked to the Dry Diagonal Dimensions Project, which is conducted jointly by the Biology Institute of the University of Campinas (UNICAMP, Brazil) and Harvard University (US), among other Brazilian (UFSCAR and USP) and US (Cornell, OSU, VSU, AMNH) institutions. Such collaboration is under the aegis of an agreement between the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and National Science Foundation (NSF) through their respective programs BIOTA and Dimensions of Diversity.

    Adaptation is a central process in evolution, and ecologically diverse groups of species offer opportunities to study adaptive evolution in many levels of biological organization. The Dry Diagonal Dimensions Project will use different types of data in order to understand how adaptation contributes to phenotypic, genomic, and phylogenetic diversification in dry vegetation and neighboring humid forests. Species of Neotropical birds and cacti offer exciting opportunities to explore the genomics of adaptation, as they represent examples of closely related species occupying dry/open and humid forest in areas as Caatinga, Cerrado, Amazonia, and Atlantic Forest biomes. Recent advances in sequencing technology facilitate the task of interrogating hundreds – or even thousands – of loci potentially related to phenotypic variation using both genomes and transcriptomes.

    The selected researcher will:

    - Collect and process samples of birds and cacti, and occasionally trait data;
    - Perform sequence capture of candidate genes and sequence complete genomes and transcriptomes;
    - Perform bioinformatics, genome and trait evolution analyses;
    - Write scientific reports and manuscripts.

    This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP’s Post-Doctoral fellowship in the amount of R$ 7,373.10 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 15% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent in items directly related to the research activity.

    Applications or questions should be sent to  amarallab.unifesp@gmail.com. Interested applicants should send a letter of intent, CV and contact information of two references up to December 15th 24h00 GMT.
