  • Resumo Summary

    A família Solanaceae é uma das mais importantes na agricultura e engloba espécies cultivadas como o tomateiro, pimentão, berinjela e pimentas, todas estas acometidas pela espécie de begomovírus Tomato severe rugose virus (ToSRV). O ToSRV é transmitido por Bemisia tabaci, que é constituída por um complexo de espécies crípticas das quais Middle East-Asia Minor 1 (MEAM1, também conhecida por biótipo B) e Mediterranean (MED, também chamada de biótipo Q) são altamente invasivas. A espécie MED foi relatada no Estado de São Paulo em 2017. Recentemente, estufas de pimentão com alta infestação desta espécie foram observadas neste Estado, situação bastante preocupante. Resultados prévios de nosso grupo demonstraram que MED é excelente vetora do ToSRV, de modo que se pretende compreender o papel desta espécie na epidemiologia do ToSRV em solanáceas.

    Os principais objetivos do projeto incluem a produção de clones infecciosos do Tomato severe rugose virus – ToSRV (isolado proveniente de tomateiro) e avaliação da eficiência de transmissão pelas espécies MEAM1 e MED de Bemisia tabaci. Além disto, estufas de pimentão serão monitoradas para verificar a ocorrência de espécies de B. tabaci e de vírus associados, a fim de verificar se epidemiologia dos vírus transmitidos por mosca-branca está sendo alterada em solanáceas.

    As atividades serão realizadas no Laboratório de Virologia Vegetal (Departamento de Proteção Vegetal, FCA/UNESP, Botucatu, Estado de São Paulo). O projeto tem supervisão da Profª Renate Krause Sakate.

    Critérios para inscrição:

    a. O candidato deve ter concluído o doutorado em menos de 7 (sete) anos e estar realizando atividade de pesquisa;

    c. O bolsista não pode ter contrato de trabalho nem pode receber salário, bolsa de estudo de outra entidade ou remuneração decorrente do exercício de qualquer atividade de qualquer natureza durante o período de vigência da bolsa de estudos. Não pode ser aposentado ou estar ausente sem pagamento;
    d. O candidato deve demonstrar experiência no campo em relação a: conhecimento e prática em doenças de vírus de plantas e técnicas de biologia molecular, tais como produção de clones infecciosos de begomovirus, sequenciamento do genoma do vírus, imuno ensaios (ELISA, Western blotting), PCR, PCR em tempo real;
    e. Comunicação em inglês e capacidade de trabalhar em equipe.

    Como se inscrever

    1) Currículo dos candidatos e a carta de motivação; e
    2) Entrevista pessoal ou por videoconferência com candidatos selecionados, onde as habilidades nas questões serão verificadas e outros aspectos podem ser discutidos.

    Início previsto para 1º de agosto de 2019.

    Esta oportunidade está aberta a candidatos de qualquer nacionalidade. O candidato selecionado receberá uma Bolsa de Pós-Doutorado da FAPESP no valor de R $ 7.373,10 mensais e um fundo de contingência para pesquisa, equivalente a 15% do valor anual da bolsa que deverá ser gasto em itens diretamente relacionados à atividade de pesquisa.

    The Solanaceae family is one of the most important in agriculture and includes cultivated species such as tomato, pepper, eggplant and bell peppers. These  plants can be affected by the begomovirus species Tomato severe rugose virus (ToSRV), transmitted by Bemisia tabaci, that is composed by a complex of cryptic species of which Middle East-Asia Minor 1, MEAM1 (also known as biotype B) and Mediterranean, MED, also called the Q biotype, are highly invasive. The MED species was detected in São Paulo State in 2017 and more recently, we observed bell pepper greenhouses highly infested with this species. Previous results obtained in our laboratory demonstrated that MED can be an efficient vector of ToSRV but the question remains unanswered about the contribution of the Mediterranean species for ToSRV epidemiology in solanaceous crops.

    The main objectives of this project is to produce an infectious clone for a ToSRV isolate collected from tomatoes and to test the transmission efficiency of this clone by the MED and MEAM1 whiteflies species. The main important solanaceas cultivated in São Paulo will be tested for virus infection. In addition, bell pepper greenhouses will be monitored for whitefly species and virus occurrence to verify if this exotic pest is altering the epidemiology of the viruses transmitted by whiteflies.

    The activities will take place at Department of Plant Protection, São Paulo State University’s School of Agronomic Sciences (FCA/UNESP) in Botucatu, Brazil. Prof. Renate Krause Sakate is the project supervisor.
