Post-doctoral Fellowship in Climatology

• Resumo Summary

  O Instituto de Astronomia, Geofísica e Ciências Atmosféricas da Universidade de São Paulo oferece uma bolsa de Pós-Doutorado com o intuito de investigar padrões climatológicos da atmosfera em alta resolução espacial. O trabalho deverá abordar a influência dos fenômenos de micro e mesoescala no estado da atmosfera, para estudar as regiões Centro-Oeste, Sul e Sudeste do Brasil, com detalhamento para as áreas de montanha. O material será estabelecido a partir da utilização de conjunto de dados de estações meteorológicas e de saídas de modelos numéricos de circulação atmosférica, e da análise com ferramentas estatísticas computacionais.

  Busca-se um profissional com título de Doutorado e conhecimento comprovado em Meteorologia e/ou Geociências, para trabalhar em uma equipe multidisciplinar. Valoriza-se o conhecimento de instrumentação meteorológica e análise estatística. Será favorável a experiência em monitoramento de medições em estações meteorológicas, habilidades em programação computacional com R, Pyton, Linux ou aplicativos similares, e com razoável nível de entendimento e para falar Português e Inglês. É desejável que se comprove a experiência e habilidades com exemplos.

  Bolsa: A oportunidade é aberta para cidadãos de todas nacionalidades, com título acadêmico de doutor obtido até o início da vigência, e não mais que 7 anos antes desta. O candidato selecionado receberá uma bolsa de Pós Doutorado da FAPESP com valor mensal de R$ 7.174,80 durante até 24 meses, e um adicional equivalente a 15% do valor annual para ser utilizado em items diretamente relacionados ás atividades de pesquisa.   The Institute of Astronomy, Geophysics and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of São Paulo (IAG-USP) wishes to appoint a Post Doc position with the purpose to investigate climatological atmospheric patterns at high spatial resolution. The work must approach the influence of the micro and mesoscale phenomena in the atmospheric state, to study the center-west, south and southeast Brazil regions, with detailed attention to the montane areas. Material will require the use of data sets of weather station and atmospheric circulation model outputs, and analysis with statistical computational tools. 

  We are looking for a motivated researcher with PhD degree and related experiences in Meteorology and/or Earth sciences, and interested in working in a multidisciplinary team. A background of experience in field meteorological instrumentation and statistical analysis is desired. Further assets are designing and establishment of field measurements, programming skills with Linux, R, Pyton and similar softwares, and fair speaking/understanding of Portuguese and English languages. It is desirable to illustrate previous experiences in order to substantiate the skillfullness. 

  Grant: The opportunity is open to applicants of all nationalities who have PhD completed by the beginning of the fellowship period and not longer than 7 years before that. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP Postdoctoral fellowship in a monthly amount of R$ 7,174.80 for up to 24 months, and a grant equivalent to 15% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent in items directly related to the research activity.
