Postdoctoral fellowship (24 months) linked to the thematic FAPESP project 2013/21728-2, in partnership with many institutions from the University of São Paulo, and from abroad.

This Thematic Project is under the coordination of Prof. Paulo Saldiva from the Medical School. The Thematic Project overarching goal is to use a new imaging facility to explore two important topics:

    (a)
The use of modern autopsy techniques to investigate human diseases (MODAU) concept of minimally invasive autopsy as an alternative to increase the number of autopsies; and
    (b) The role of autopsy to investigate the effects of urban environment in determining human diseases.

Opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary group, involved in a project whose objectives are to track the relation between environmental quality and human health. The innovation of the project is to use the autopsy material to find indicators of environmental injury.

The selected candidate's responsibilities will consist of investigating through statistical analysis the spatial and temporal variability of atmospheric pollutants measured at the Metropolitan Area of São Paulo.

In addition, the selected candidate will conduct a literature review, prepare reports and scientific articles, develop workshops with the research team for the discussion of methodology, results and research dissemination.

The selected candidate will develop its activities at the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics under the supervision of Dr. Julio Singer.

Candidate requirements: Candidates must have completed their Doctorate degree in the field of atmospheric sciences and have experience in statistical analyses of air pollution data. The approved candidate will be required to exercise full-time dedication to the project activities.

This opportunity is open to candidates of all nationalities with the requirement that candidates must be fluent in Portuguese and English. Additional requirements found at http://fapesp.br/en/5427 also apply.

Selection will be based on candidates' curriculum and their potential contribution to the scope of the project.

Selection process: Interested candidates should send two letters of recommendation, letter of motivation, and curriculum including a detailed description of research experience. All documents must be sent until March 10, 2016, in one PDF folder, to Dr. Julio Singer (jmsinger@ime.usp.br).

The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP's fellowship in the amount of R$ 6,143.40 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 15% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent in items directly related to the research activity.
