SPRINT – 2nd Edition 2014: Guideline CONICET

Specific requests for submission of proposals in partnership with researchers from CONICET 

FAPESP and CONICET signed a Cooperation Agreement for Research on October, 26th 2010, aiming to implement scientific and technological cooperation between researchers from the Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET), Argentina, and from the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, through the funding of joint research projects.

Under the referred Agreement, as a first action to promote such collaboration, FAPESP and CONICET make public this Call for Proposals for the exchange of faculty and postdoctoral researchers, under the terms and conditions of the SPRINT 2st Edition 2014 ( www.fapesp.br/en/8790) and hereinafter set forth.

1. Eligibility from CONICET side

1.1 Eligibility to submit proposals within the scope of this Call:

a. The project head must be a member of the science and technology research career of CONICET.

b. The project head must be a CONICET PIP or Agency PICT project holder or member, or have verifiable funds from international institutions.

c. Just ONE single submission will be accepted per head.

d. The work plan should be developed in conjunction with the counterpart; therefore, it can be presented in both Spanish and English.

1.2 Eligibility for the exchange activities within the scope of this Call

a. Those entitled to participate and be beneficiaries of the exchange in this project are researchers, postdoctoral and doctoral fellows from CONICET or other institutions.

b. The Board of Directors may prioritise among recommended projects whose beneficiaries are young researchers and/or Fellows.

c. A travel programme for the whole project should be included, which shall consist of at least one trip per project.

2. Fields of knowledge

This Call for Proposals invites research proposals in all fields of knowledge.

3. Duration of the project for the exchange of researchers

The maximum duration of each project is up to 24 months.

4. Funding principles

FAPESP will provide funding of up to the equivalent of AR$50.000,00 (fifty thousand Argentinian Pesos) per proposal per year. CONICET requires that the participants have existing funding resources for the submission of proposals. The head project must be a CONICET PIP or Agency PICT project holder or member, or have verifiable funds from international institutions. Fellows must apply to CONICET fellowships’ annual Call. Additionally, in the framework of this Call, CONICET will provide funding of up to AR$50.000,00 (fifty thousand Argentinian Pesos) per proposal per year, for the duration of the grant to cover research-related mobility expenses exclusively, under the provisions of Clause 5 of the Scientific Cooperation Agreement established by the Parties (www.fapesp.br/5946).

5. Proposal characteristics f or CONICET researchers

The description of the proposal must include: addressed theme, importance of the problem, how the problem will be addressed, cooperation background, added value through cooperation work plan and bibliographic references. The maximum extension of the project is 10 pages. 

6. Submission of proposals to CONICET

Submissions can only be accepted by October, 27th 2014.

The application form should be sent by email to convocatoriascoopint@sun1.conicet.gov.ar. All fields must be filled in and the form signed, and it must be sent along with the corresponding attachments.

Applications must be submitted in cardboard folders with the name of the project head and of the counterpart at CONICET’s Reception Desk, Rivadavia 1917, PB, Buenos Aires (C1033AAJ) from July 27th until October 27th 2014 or sent by post on dates indicated to the above postal address. Or failing that, in the respective Scientific and Technology Centres (CCTs) until the closing date of the call. 

7. Result of the analysis

Final results will be announced on FAPESP (www.fapesp.br) and CONICET (www.conicet.gov.ar) web portals and by means of a communication to the interested PIs.

8. Contract for selected projects by CONICET

Selected proposals will subject to the conditions set forth in the Manual of Grant Funding and Accountability and as per Board Resolution Nº 863/14.
