Roberto Gomes de Souza Berlinck received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the State University at Campinas in 1987. In 1992, he received a doctoral degree in chemistry from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Free University of Brussels), Belgium. In 2001, he became a tenured professor at the Universidade de São Paulo (USP, University of São Paulo) Institute of Chemistry at São Carlos. He is currently an associate professor at the Institute of Chemistry at São Carlos.
From 1997 to 1998, Dr. Berlinck was a postdoctoral fellow (acting as a visiting professor) at the University of British Columbia, in Vancouver, Canada, focusing on the discovery of cell cycle checkpoint inhibitors in tumor cells in marine invertebrates.
In 2000, Dr. Berlinck received the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation/EMS Sigma Pharma award for Science and Technology in Health. In 2002, he received the Matt Suffness (Young Investigators Symposium) Award from the American Society of Pharmacognosy (ASP) Foundation.
Dr. Berlinck is a member of the Brazilian Chemical Society, the ASP, and the Royal Society of Chemistry (Great Britain).
