Sergio Luiz Monteiro Salles Filho received a bachelor’s degree in agricultural engineering from the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro in 1981. In 1985, he received a master’s degree in agricultural sciences from the Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp, São Paulo State University). In 1993, he received a doctoral degree in economics from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp, State University at Campinas).
In 1998, Dr. Salles Filho became a tenured professor in the Department of Science and Technology Policy at the Unicamp Institute of Geosciences. Since 2005, he has been a full professor in that department.
From 2001 to 2003, Dr. Salles Filho held the position of planning supervisor at the Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos (FINEP, Brazilian Financing Agency for Studies and Projects). In 1995, he founded the Grupo de Estudos sobre Organização da Pesquisa e da Inovação (GEOPI, Study Group for the Organization of Research and Innovation).
