He is a physician, graduated from the School of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (USP), where he has been a full professor since 1981.
He took a doctor's degree in Biochemistry, also at USP.
He is a director of the Ludwig Cancer Research Institute and director-president of the A.C. Camargo Cancer Hospital.
