Suely Vilela is a Full Professor of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Ribeirão Preto- University of São Paulo (FCFRP-USP), a CNPq grantee of research productivity fellowship - Level 1B. Graduated in Biochemical Pharmacy by the Faculty of Pharmacy and Odontology of Ribeirão Preto, University of Sao Paulo (USP) (1975), she earned her master and doctorate degrees in Biological Sciences (Biochemistry) by the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto, USP (1981 and 1985, respectively), where she also developed a Post-doctorate training (1990).
Associate Professor by FCFRP-USP (1991). Since 1977 she has been working as Professor of FCFRP-USP, and from 1996 up to now, as Full Professor. From 1998 to 2001, she was the Dean of FCFRP-USP. From 2001 to 2005 she was Provost for Postgraduate Studies at USP. In the period of 2005 to 2009 she was the Rector of the University of São Paulo.
Since 1985, she has been advisor of Master and Doctorate students at the Postgraduate Program in Toxicology of FCFRP-USP, and is also a post-doctorate supervisor. She is member of the Academy of Sciences of Ribeirão Preto and of the National Academy of Pharmacy (chair n. 51).
She is a scientific consultant of different funding agencies as FAPESP, CNPq, CAPES, FAPEMIG and FAPEAM, among others. She is member of FAPESP Board of Trustees and of some international boards, such as Akredita Council of Higher Education of Chile. She has experience in Toxicology and Biochemistry, with emphasis in Chemistry of Macromolecules (proteins), mainly in the following subjects: animal toxins and other compounds with significant biological activity and structural characterization of proteins isolated from snake venoms.
