Scientific Journalism Program

The José Reis Program for the Promotion of Scientific Journalism (Media Science) was launched in October 1999 to promote the training of professionals capable of dealing with information on science and technology in the national press, in the specialized press, on the internet or in areas of communication of teaching and research institutions.

The purpose of Media Science is to support the implementation of proposals for journalistic research which may result in the production of documents for broadcast via whatever means of communication (newspapers, periodicals, radio, television, electronic media, etc.) and which are developed in parallel with the completion of a defined program of studies. One of its specific objectives is precisely to promote the creation of science journalism courses, within and outside the academic ambit, with the eventual support of communications businesses.

The implementation of the proposal of journalistic research and the completion of the study program must be supervised by a researcher experienced in the scientific or technological area, to which the journalistic proposal is related, or by a journalist with broad and well-documented professional experience in the dissemination of science and technology matters. This supervisor will be the person responsible for the application submitted to FAPESP. The professional trainee should be supervised by a journalist attached to the business or department where it will be carried out.
