Founded in 1988, the Academic Network at São Paulo (ANSP) was the first Brazilian network to integrate with the Internet, in 1991. This connection established international access to the universities and research institutes in the State of São Paulo and to the institutions connected to the National Network of Teaching and Research (RNP), created in 1989 by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) to link up the state's academic networks.
The ANSP Network is an important support for the functioning of the Internet in Brazil. It is also used as infrastructure for research projects approved in the Information Technology in the Development of Advanced Internet Program (Tidia)
FAPESP's ANSP Network program is closed to any further inscriptions of projects or research proposals.
