FAPESP announces a call for proposals to fund water resource management research projects in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The call is issued in partnership with the Brazilian National Council of State Funding Agencies (CONFAP) and the European Union through the Water JPI Initiative.

The research themes must address challenges in assessment of multiple pressures (hydromorphological changes, anthropogenic pollution, biological contamination, natural hazards, etc.) effects on ecosystems and ecosystem services; tools and approaches for adapting and mitigating to multiple pressures; developing systems for universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water; wastewater treatment and recycling.

Each proposal related to FAPESP must have one principal investigator from the São Paulo State and at least two foreign principal investigators, each one from a different country among the participant countries of this call. Above these minimum criteria for the composition of consortia, the participation of principal investigators from other Brazilian States is encouraged.

In the State of São Paulo, FAPESP will fund researchers affiliated to higher education or research institutions according to its Regular Research Awards rules and instructions. Some modifications and exceptionalities apply to this call. The projects’ duration may vary from 24 to 36 months, with a maximum budget of R$ 100.000 per year.

Researchers from the State of São Paulo must consult FAPESP about their eligibility until November 24, 2017. The declaration of eligibility emitted by FAPESP must be included in the proposal by the time of its submission.

This call is organized in two phases. In the pre-proposal phase, the coordinator of the joint project must follow the procedures described in the international call until December 11, 2017.

Researchers from São Paulo participating in pre-proposals invited for the full proposal phase will be notified by e-mail on how to submit the proposal through SAGe, simultaneously with the project coordinator’s submission to Water JPI, by June 27, 2018.

Guidelines for researchers from the State of São Paulo are available at: www.fapesp.br/en/11332.

A Webinair for applicants is scheduled for November 17, 2017. More information coming soon (updates at 2017 Joint Call).
