Professor Durigan died on September 8, 2017. He was 63. 

Rector of São Paulo State University (UNESP). President of UNESP’s Senate since 2011. He was Full Professor at the Plant Health Department, School of Agrarian & Veterinary Sciences, UNESP Jaboticabal, since 1997. Formerly Vice Rector Acting as Rector (2011-12), and Vice Rector (2009-10).

Graduated in Agronomy from UNESP in 1975. Master’s in Plant Production (1978) and PhD in Soil & Plant Nutrition from University of São Paulo (1983).

At UNESP, Durigan has been Pro-Rector for Administration and Chair of the Administration & Development Council (2005-08), Chair of the Education, Research & University Extension Council (2009-12), and Vice President of the University Senate (2009-10).

Titular member of the Council of Rectors of the Universities of São Paulo State (CRUESP) since 2009, having chaired the Council in 2011-12.

Former President of the Brazilian Weed Science Society (SBCPD) (2003-05) and Vice President of the Latin American Weed Science Association (ALAM) (2001-03).

He was Vice President of the Ibero-American University Association of Graduate Education (AUIP) since 2011 and a titular member of the Board of the Brazilian Association of Rectors of State & Municipal Universities (ABRUEM) since 2009.

Titular member of the Board of the Association of Portuguese-Speaking Universities (AULP), the Council of Rectors of the Coimbra Group of Portuguese-Speaking Universities, the Council of the Network of Administrators of Ibero-American Universities (RAUI), the Board of Trustees of the Latin American Memorial Foundation (FMAL), the High Council of Advanced Studies of the São Paulo State Federation of Industry (FIESP), and the Board of Trustees of Fundação Padre Anchieta, among others.
