Angela Kaysel Cruz

Graduated in Biomedical Sciences at the Ribeirão Preto Medical School - University of São Paulo (1978), completed the Master of Science (General Physiology) at the University of São Paulo (1981) and the Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (Genetics) at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1985). Worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard Medical School in the US between 1989 and 1992.

She is Full Professor in Molecular Parasitology in the Ribeirão Preto Medical School, University of São Paulo. She was Head of the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology for two terms (2012-2016). President of the Brazilian Society of Protozoology in the biennium 2010-2011. Acted as a member of Steering Committees and Working Groups of the UNICEF/UNDP/World Bank/WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR), from the World Health Organization, between 1997 and 2006.

She has research experience in the field of Biology / Molecular Genetics of the Leishmania protozoan parasite. Currently, the work conducted in her laboratory is centered on issues related to the genome and its organization, mechanisms of gene expression regulation and some aspects related to the virulence of the parasite.
