Mauricio received a MD (1995), MsC (Microbiology, 1998) and a PhD (Microbiology, 2001) degree from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, Brazil. From 2000 to 2004 was Visiting Fellow at National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (Bethesda, USA).
Since 2004 is Professor Adjunto at Faculdade de Medicina de São Jose do Rio Preto (FAMERP), where he coordinated several grants and mentored several graduated students in the field of Dengue and others arbovirus.
Currently he is an Associated Editor for the Brazilian Journal of Microbiology and Secretary of the Brazilian Society for Virology.
