Shaker Chuck Farah graduated in Chemistry and Biochemistry from the University of Toronto in 1985 and obtained his Masters degree in Biochemistry at the same university in 1988. He then moved to Brazil where he obtained his PhD in Biochemistry at the University of São Paulo in 1994.

Farah has been Professor of the Department of Biochemistry at the University of São Paulo since 1996.

Farah´s research aims to understand the protein structure-function relationships in bacterial secretion systems and bacterial signaling pathways involving the important second messenger cyclic di-GMP.

Farah is currently the head of the Department of Biochemistry at the University of São Paulo (since April 2014) and a member of the Biological Area Panels Committee at FAPESP.
