Victoria University, Australia GUIDELINES

Specific requests for submission of proposals in partnership with researchers from Victoria University (VU)

São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and Victoria University (VU), Australia, signed a Cooperation Agreement for Research on 23 December 2014 aiming to implement scientific and technological cooperation between researchers from Victoria University, Australia, and from the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, through the funding of joint research projects.

Under the referred Agreement, as a first action to promote such collaboration, FAPESP and VU make public this Call for Proposals for the exchange of researchers under the terms and conditions of the SPRINT 1st Edition 2015 (www.fapesp.br/en/9265) and hereinafter set forth.

1. Eligibility from VU side:

1.1 Eligibility to submit proposals within the scope of this Call:

Principal Investigator must be permanent or contracted VU employees at Academic Level A or higher at time of application and must maintain this status for the duration of the proposed activities.

1.2 Eligibility for the exchange activities within the scope of this Call

Principal Investigators, as well, Associated Researchers form VU who are directly involved in an ongoing or new research project. Participating VU post-doctoral fellows and PhD students must have hold a VU fellowship/scholarship during the planned exchange mission.

2. Fields of knowledge

This Call for Proposals invites research proposals in all fields of knowledge.

3. Duration of the project for the exchange of researchers

The maximum duration of each project is 24 months, non-extendable. Projects shorter than 12 months will not be considered.

4. Funding principles

a. FAPESP will provide funding of up to (AUD $10,000.00) per proposal per year and VU will provide funding of up to (AUD $10,000.00) per proposal per year, for the duration of the grant to cover research-related mobility expenses, under the provisions of Clause 5 of the Scientific Cooperation Agreement established by the Parties (www.fapesp.br/en/9261).

b. VU will provide the selected projects with funds for travel (air tickets) and living allowances for VU researchers from Australia visiting the State of São Paulo.

c.FAPESP and VU agree to award up to two (2) proposals for the duration of 24 months, under this call, depending on the quality and the scientific merit of the submitted projects.

5. Proposal characteristics

The VU Principal Investigator must provide a complete application that includes the Research Project as described at SPRINT 1st Edition 2015 (www.fapesp.br/en/9265), as well as the Forms as below:

a. Research Proposal Form;

b. CV Summaries of the Principal Investigators on both sides and of all candidates for the exchange activities (guidelines at www.fapesp.br/en/6351);

c. Budget forms;

d. Worksheet with the candidates for the exchange missions (according to those planned in the project - item 6.1 - b);

7. Submission of proposals & assessment

Submissions to VU require that the completed application be saved as a single PDF file, and submitted by email to Ms Zana Stefanovski, Senior Officer, Research Funding: zana.stefanovski@vu.edu.au within the deadline of this Call.

Both FAPESP and VU will independently assess applications according to their own criteria. Thereafter both parties will come to an agreement about which projects are to be funded

8. Result of the analysis

Final results will be announced on FAPESP: www.fapesp.br and VU: www.vu.edu.au/research/grants-funding-schemes web portals and by means of a personal communication to the interested PIs.

9. Contract for selected projects

9.1 To VU

Release of funds to the PI from VU will be subject to completion of a Research Grant Acceptance Form (RGAF).

10. Grant cancellation

FAPESP or VU may cancel funding if, during the grant timeframe, a fact is of sufficient gravity to justify cancellation, without prejudice of any other appropriate actions.
