Specific requests for proposals submissions from researchers at CONCYTEC

FAPESP and CONCYTEC signed a Cooperation Agreement for Research on September 17, 2014, aiming to implement scientific and technological cooperation between researchers from the CONCYTEC, Peru, and from the State of São Paulo, Brazil, through the funding of joint research projects.

Under the referred Agreement, as a first action to promote such collaboration, FAPESP and CONCYTEC make public this Call for Proposals for the exchange of researchers under the terms and conditions of the SPRINT 1st Edition 2019 (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call12019) and hereinafter set forth.

1. Eligibility from CONCYTEC side

1.1 Eligibility to submit proposals within the scope of this Call:

PhD/Doctoral Peruvian researcher as Principal Investigator (PI).

PI must be affiliated to Universities that are licensed or in the process of begin licensed by SUNEDU, higher technological education institutions, public and private research institutions, NGOs that conducts/promotes research in Science Technology and Innovation according to their purpose.

Only one proposal per PI will be accepted.

1.2 Eligibility for the exchange activities within the scope of this Call

• PI only applicants.

• Experience leading research projects in the last 7 years or actually developing 2 research projects as Principal Investigator or equivalent role.

• 01 research article published in SCOPUS or WoS. 

Note:

a. Proposals must aim to respect the principle of reciprocity with regard to academic qualifications of those who will take part in the exchange activities.

b. The time of exchange activities will be equivalents between Peruvian and São Paulo researchers.

c. Eligibility of research partners in the State of São Paulo should observe the items 3.1 and 4.2 of FAPESP call (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call12019).

2. Fields of knowledge

This Call for Proposals invites research proposals in the following sectors:

Textile and Apparel

Mining and its Manufacturing

Advanced Manufacturing

Ecotourism, restoration and creative industries

Additionally, shall be under the following areas of knowledge: a) Biotechnology, b) Materials Science and Technology, c) Information and Communications Technology, d) Environmental Science and Technology, e) Basic Science.

3. Duration of the project for the exchange of researchers

The maximum duration of each proposal is 12 months.

5. Funding principles

5.1. FAPESP will provide funding of up to the equivalent of US$ 5000.00 (5 thousand dollars) per proposal and CONCYTEC will provide funding of up to US$ 5000.00 (5 thousand dollars) per proposal, for the duration of the grant to cover research-related mobility expenses, under the provisions of Clause 5 of the Scientific Cooperation Agreement established by the Parties (www.fapesp.br/8949).

5.2. FAPESP and CONCYTEC will fund a maximum of five (05) approved proposals.

6. Proposal characteristics for CONCYTEC researchers:

The proposal shall be composed of:

6.1. A Research Project having a maximum of five (5) pages of scientific content, written jointly by the Principal Investigator of the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo and the Peruvian Investigator. The Research Project must be written in English. One copy of the Research Project shall be sent to FAPESP and another (identical) copy to the CONCYTEC.

The Research Project must include the following:

a. A substantive description of the exchange activities, emphasizing their relevance. The proposal must state clearly how the exchange activities to be carried out will contribute to the ongoing research project funded by FAPESP and to the research being carried by the partner researcher by CONCYTEC;

b. Detailed schedule of the exchange missions to be carried out by the Peruvian researcher at the São Paulo institution and the São Paulo team at Peruvian research organization, considering the limit of missions and funding established in this Call.

c. Performance indicators for the planned activities, indicating the expected results;

d. A description of each candidate’s contribution to the mission, explaining their expertise to carry out the foreseen activities;

e. Foreseen actions that will add to the impact of the exchange for the Peruvian research institution and for the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo, e.g. by means of seminars, short courses or visits, etc.;

f. Description of how the Principal Investigators in São Paulo and Peruvian researcher intend to prepare a joint research project, resulting from the exchange activities developed from the proposal submitted in this Call, to be submitted to research funding agencies accessible in their regions in order to create a medium-long-term collaboration (up to one page).

6.2. The following additional documents are required from CONCYTEC:

a. CVs of Principal Investigator (PI)

b. A supporting letter from Peruvian research organization: Universities that are licensed or in the process of begin licensed by SUNEDU, higher technological education institutions, research institutions, ONGs. (Annex 01).

c. Letter of Agreement of the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo to which the PI from São Paulo is affiliated. The same document is required by FAPESP in item 6.2.3 at www.fapesp.br/sprint/call12019. The Letter of Agreement may be delivered after the notification of results of this call for proposals and before the grant agreement signature.

6.3. Additional Requirements

A completed application form, available online at www.fondecyt.gob.pe (Partner research from São Paulo should submit FAPESP’s Application Form following FAPESP’s submission guidelines).

7. Submission of proposals to CONCYTEC

Applications must be submitted electronically to CONCYTEC via the FONDECYT website (www.fondecyt.gob.pe).

8. Result of the analysis

Final results will be announced on the FAPESP (www.fapesp.br) and FONDECYT (www.fondecyt.gob.pe) web portals.

9. Contract for selected projects CONCYTEC

Selected proposals will be subject to the conditions set forth in the letter of award.

10. Grant cancellation

CONCYTEC may cancel funding of a CONCYTEC researcher, if, during the grant timeframe, a significant event justifies its cancellation, at the discretion of the scientific director of each Institute, without prejudice of any other appropriate actions.
