SPRINT - 3rd Edition 2016: Guidelines Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU)

Specific requests for proposals submissions from researchers of FAU

FAPESP and FAU, signed a Cooperation Agreement for Research on July 22th, 2015, aiming to implement scientific and technological cooperation between researchers from FAU, Germany, and from the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, through the funding of joint research projects.

Under the referred Agreement, as a first action to promote such collaboration, FAPESP and FAU make public this Call for Proposals for the exchange of researchers under the terms and conditions of the SPRINT 3rd Edition 2016 (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call32016) and hereinafter set forth.

1. Eligibility from FAU side

1.1 Eligibility to submit proposals within the scope of this Call:

a. Principal Investigators (PI) must be permanent or contracted academic staff at FAU and must maintain this status for the duration of the proposed activities.

b. FAU will only accept one application per related ongoing research project. Likewise, each PI can present only one proposal to this Call. Preference will be given to projects that will be likely to promote sustained collaborative activity beyond the end point of the award period.

1.2 Eligibility for the exchange activities within the scope of this Call:

a. Principal Investigators and Associate Researchers directly involved into the research project.

b. Participating PhD and post-doctoral fellows must have a fellowship/scholarship during the planned exchange mission.

c. The proposals must aim to respect the principle of reciprocity with regard to academic qualifications of those who will take part in the exchange activities.

d. Eligibility of research partners in the State of São Paulo should observe the items 3.1 and 7.1 of FAPESP call (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call32016). Respecting the principle of reciprocity, FAPESP will also accept the participation PhD fellows in scientific missions. The PhD fellows must have an ongoing FAPESP fellowship during the planned exchange mission.

2. Fields of knowledge

This Call for Proposals invites research proposals in all fields of knowledge.

3. Duration of the project for the exchange of researchers

The maximum duration of each project is 24 months, non-extendable.

4. Timeline

Closing date for submission of proposals

October 31st, 2016

Successful proposals notified after

January 27 th, 2017

5. Funding principles

FAPESP will provide funding of up to the equivalent of € 5,000.00 (five thousand Euros) per proposal per year and FAU will provide funding of up to € 5,000.00 (five thousand Euros) per proposal per year, for the duration of the grant to cover research-related mobility expenses, under the provisions of Clause 5 of the Scientific Cooperation Agreement established by the Parties (www.fapesp.br/en/9606). Both parties agree to increase the amount of matching funds to up to € 8,000.00, under the condition specified in the item 6.1.b below.

The Parties are expected to support at maximum 4 proposals.

6. Proposal characteristics for PARTNER researchers

The proposal shall be composed of:

6.1 A Research Project having a maximum of five (5) pages of scientific content, written jointly by the Principal Investigator of the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo and the Principal Investigator at FAU. The Research Project must be written in English. One copy of the Research Project shall be sent to FAPESP and another (identical) copy to FAU.

a. The Research Project must include the items included in the item 6.1 at www.fapesp.br/sprint/call32016.

b. The Research Projects may involve researchers of partner institutions or industrial partners of FAU and attract additional third party funding.

6.2 The following additional documents required by FAU (available at https://www.fau.eu/international/international-profile/):

a. Research Proposal Form;

b. CV Summaries of the Principal Investigators on both sides;

c. Budget sheet;

d. Worksheet with the candidates for the exchange missions;

e. Letter of Agreement of the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo to which the PI from São Paulo is affiliated. The same document is required by FAPESP in item 6.2.3 at www.fapesp.br/sprint/call32016. The Letter of Agreement may be delivered after the notification of results of this call for proposals and before the grant agreement signature.

7. Submission of proposals to FAU

Submissions can only be accepted via email to natalia.joerg@fau.de

8. Result of the analysis

Final results will be announced on FAPESP (www.fapesp.br) and FAU (www.fau.eu) web portals and by means of a communication to the interested PIs.

9. Contract for selected projects by FAU

Selected proposals will subject to the conditions set forth in the letter of award.

10. Grant cancellation

FAU may cancel funding of an FAU researcher, if, during the grant timeframe, a fact is of sufficient gravity to justify cancellation, at the discretion of the program directors, without prejudice of any other appropriate actions.
